Welcome to EH 141!
Our goal this semester will be to explore, discuss, practice, and reflect on various forms of oral communication, from formal speech-making to informal interpersonal discussion, to conducting interviews, to group collaboration, to multimedia productions.
This course will follow the flipped classroom model, which means that there will be no lectures. Instead, you will be responsible for completing and taking notes on reading and video assignments as homework and communicating any questions or muddy points during class discussions. In-class activities will focus on actively applying the information, concepts, and principles from the reading and videos, so if you do not complete the homework and reading assignments, you will not be able to fully participate in and learn from our in-class activities.

I expect you to take an active role in your learning during this course.
You will work to build a portfolio of your learning that will include formal speech artifacts, self-assessments, and a blog of your reflections on your communication experiences inside and outside of the classroom. You will use your peers as a learning resource, as you work together to apply concepts, pose and answer questions, solve problems, share resources, springboard ideas, provide feedback, and offer informal assessments of your speeches and presentations. In order for this class to be effective and successful, everyone must uphold their responsibilities as learners and members of a collaborative learning network. As the Beatles said, ". . . in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." In other words, you will get out of this class exactly what you put into it.
